A janitor from Alford has picked up

staff recognition after his hard work at a school in Donside.
James Brander has been an employee at the school across the last 28 years and his efforts have been acknowledged in the shape of Aberdeenshire Council's Unsung Hero of 2012 honour at the 2012 Employment Achievement Awards, reports the Deeside Piper and Herald.
Speaking to the news provider, Mr Brander said: "It was a lovely surprise. I was over the moon.
"They are a great bunch at the school, staff and pupils, and I will miss them when I leave later this year."
In recognition of his service, Jim was invited to welcome the Olympic Torch Relay at Balmoral Castle.
Such rewards can be extremely beneficial for Britain's workers, as they can help to boost morale and increase the probability of retaining talented staff, while potentially helping to improve productivity from individual employees.
