Bosses 'must appreciate workers'

Tuesday, 30 June 2009

Ensuring that employees' efforts are recognised is in an important factor in improving a business' performance by supporting motivation, it has been claimed.

Jeffrey Kroll, who runs a law firm, suggested employers bear in mind that workers appreciate even small steps to make them feel motivated.

He told examiner.com: "I wanted to create an environment where people wanted to come to work, people wanted me to do well, so if I did well, they did well."

Jessica Bloodgood, an associate with the firm, claimed she enjoys coming into work, explaining that the company's culture of maintaining a good work/life balance makes her feel respected.

In addition, associate Heather Begley said that receiving praise and recognition from her employer motivates her, while she also appreciates the flexibility which the company permits.

Mr Kroll recommended that firms looking to boost employee motivation learn to reward hard work, make the office a pleasant environment to work in and ask for feedback when they give constructive criticism.

Recently, Tom Hadley, director of external relations at the Recruitment and Employment Confederation, noted that many companies are aware of the need to retain key workers in the difficult economic climate by using employee rewards to incentivise them.ADNFCR-1706-ID-19213069-ADNFCR
