employee retention rates by pursuing a more effective recruitment strategy and offering corporate benefits, it has been suggested.Lindi Dickinson, head of people placements in Softline Pastel, claimed firms should look at candidates closely to ensure they fit into the culture of the organisation.

The expert also pointed out that workers are no longer motivated solely by money and are looking for a range of employee benefits to keep them with a firm.

She singled out schemes such as gyms, flexible working and creche provision as being especially attractive to workers and are likely to improve a company's employee retention rates.

"Employees look for transparency and want to feel that they are an integral part of the business by being kept informed. They look for monthly staff briefings where they are given information on the company status," Ms Dickinson added.

Last month, the Advisory, Conciliation and Arbitration Service claimed that firms which concentrate on employee engagement can benefit from improved retention, morale and productivity levels.
