employee motivation across the UK's workforces during 2012, one expert believes.

There is other hope for staff, as more than a fifth (21 per cent) of private sector organisations implemented freezes in 2011, with 58 per cent expecting to lift these, according to a study by Hay Group.

Adam Burden from Hay Group said: "Organisations must take an open and transparent approach to pay to ensure that productivity doesn't suffer. Engaging employees and communicating reward policy will be key to maintaining motivation during the difficult year ahead."

As well as this, the study found that 60 per cent of organisations with bonus plans predict payments to be on or above target.

The research comes after Director of Finance Online spoke to Stephen Riley from IntaPeople, who advised businesses to do whatever they can to keep their workers.
