Bosses have to ensure they do not damage

firms should prepare for performance management

employee motivation and morale when carrying out performance management meetings, it has been suggested.Writing on helium.com, Rosemary Letson pointed out that constructive feedback is a good way for managers to deliver both positive and negative messages to their workers, but she recommended they go about this in the correct way.

"Most managers have the best intentions in offering feedback but sometimes the message is lost in the delivery, causing more harm than good," she continued.

Ms Letson advised bosses to prepare in advance for performance management meetings and stressed the need for them to communicate clearly with the employee so they understand all the issues at hand.

The commentator added that when using employee recognition, managers should find out how workers like this to be delivered, as some are happy for praise to be public while others would prefer it to be private.

Recently, Badenoch & Clark associate director Guy Emmerson suggested that performance management could help younger employees to fit into the workplace.
