Workers who adopt a healthy lifestyle will increase the productivity of businesses, a specialist has noted.

This added employee motivation can result from cycling to work and back, exercising in lunch breaks or participating in company activities, such as five-a-side football, according to international motivational speaker Roger Harrop.

Mr Harrop explained: "It is good for the productivity of the business if employees get fresh air and get their endorphins moving [through exercise]. There cannot be any doubt about that in my view."

He added that employers are now more flexible when it comes to the timing of workers' lunch breaks, noting that it is more important to simply take a break when one is necessary.

Earlier this month, a study conducted by technical sportswear brand Helly Hansen found that over two million members of staff now take a "run-ch break," where they exercise during their dinner hour.
