staff reward schemes.A survey carried out by the National Association of Pension Funds (NAPF) showed that 38 per cent of people voted pensions to be the most important employee benefit their firm can offer them.

In addition, 19 per cent said they value a financial bonus the most, while 13 per cent opted for flexible working hours.

Nigel Peaple, director of policy at the NAPF, commented:"It is clear that people greatly value pensions. They consider pensions to be the best way to save for retirement."

However, the research also showed that just 34 per cent of workers think their pension will provide them with enough money in retirement, with 27 per cent saying they would be more confident in the investment if there was a guarantee they could not lose what they have paid in.

Earlier this week, Lindi Dickinson, head of people placements in Softline Pastel, pointed out that workers are not motivated solely by money and claimed offering a range of employee benefits can improve staff retention.
