Wrong 'to abandon employee motivation'

Monday, 16 February 2009

Companies should not neglect employee motivation over the recession, it has been claimed.

Business deal

According to Righttrack Consultancy, some businesses could prioritise consolidation and survival during the tough economic conditions and fail to recognise the importance of supporting employee performance and loyalty.

However, the organisation suggested this course of action could result in more harm than good.

The group pointed out that enterprises which implement training and incentive schemes will find they have a strong workforce when the economic upswing arrives, outweighing any short-term savings that would have been made by cutting these initiatives.

Kasmin Cooney, managing director of Righttrack Consultancy, also said firms should not believe that simply retaining staff in the face of redundancies will be enough to motivate them.

She continued: "Even though the economy has slowed down, employees still have roughly the same aspirations and management expectations that they had when the business world was a much brighter place."

Recently, Awards Network claimed use of employee incentive schemes can allow some companies to make savings in the short term, while increasing workforce motivation.ADNFCR-1706-ID-19023502-ADNFCR
